PAROLE PREPARATION RESOURCES
The Board of Parole Hearings evaluates parole candidates’ participation in “Programming.” Programming is a term of art that means education, self-help, and topic-driven classes. It is necessary for a parole candidate to participate in some type of programming that focuses on teaching about the candidate’s risk factors. Participation can be done through either books, correspondence courses, or institutionally offered group classes. Below are common books and correspondence classes recommended by Parole Commissioners, Myself, as well as several other attorneys and educational organizations.
SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS
These Resources are intended to help you, as a friend or family member of an incarcerated individual, easily find the books and correspondence courses they are being told to participate in. You must look up where the incarcerated individual is and read the instructions for shipping books to that particular institution. Often, Amazon is an approved vendor, and shipping the book directly from Amazon is allowed. You must check with your loved one or read the institution’s requirements for shipping to be sure before purchasing.
